Muistola

Keeping grandparents’ memories

Keep precious memories for good.

Your mother and father have memories you haven’t heard yet: what their childhood home smelled like, how they met, what made them laugh. Muistola helps them share those memories, and their voices and words stay with your family for generations.

We played hopscotch in the schoolyard, and the teacher rang the bell from the window. None of us wanted to go back inside, not even when it was twenty below.

Why now

Memories are the most precious thing a family passes on.

Photos stay in albums, but voices and laughter live on only in our memories. Many small memories go untold simply because nobody has thought to ask. Muistola asks for you and keeps the memories for your family.

How it works

Here’s how Muistola works

  1. 1A good question brings memories back

Every week, your loved one gets three questions about childhood, work, love or everyday life and picks one to answer. There are hundreds of questions, and the family can add their own, as text or as voice messages.

  2. 2They share their memories out loud

They tell the memory in their own words, as if talking to a grandchild at the kitchen table. There is nothing to write, and if a question doesn’t feel right, they can talk about something else.

  3. 3The family learns something new about them

The family can listen and read right away, just as they told it. A heart or a voice message tells them someone was listening, and a follow-up question becomes the next memory.

Easy to set up

Your parents don’t need to learn anything new.

Create a family account, add your mum or dad and send them a code, by WhatsApp for example. They enter the code once, and the first question is already waiting.

Questions and answers

Things people often ask

Does my loved one need a smartphone?

Not necessarily. Muistola works on a smartphone, a tablet or in a computer’s web browser, as long as the device has a microphone. The screen shows a few question suggestions and a big Speak button. They join once with a six-digit code, without any passwords.

Can both Mum and Dad take part?

Yes. You can add several loved ones to the same family. Each of them has their own questions and memories, and they can also see each other’s memories. They can share memories together too, even on the same phone.

Who can be part of the family?

All your loved ones: children, grandchildren, siblings and partners, wherever they live. Everyone joins with their own account from an invitation link.

What if they don’t feel like answering some weeks?

That’s fine. Answering is always optional, and they can tell a memory whenever they feel like it. The app doesn’t count streaks or remind them about questions they skipped, and it never scolds.

Does the text keep the way they talk?

Yes. The text is written from their speech in the first person, keeping their words and dialect, and nothing is added that they didn’t say. Anything unclear is marked, and you can always listen to the original recording.

Where are the memories kept, and who can see them?

Memories and recordings are stored on servers in the EU. Speech is turned into text by AI services that process it in the United States and do not use it to train AI. Both the recording and the text of every memory are kept, and only the family members who have been invited can see the memories. You can read more in the privacy policy.

Can they choose the question themselves?

Yes. Your loved one gets a question and a few alternatives, and they can also talk about a topic of their own. Family members can send questions of their own as well, as text or as a voice message.

What if I stop my subscription?

Your memories don’t disappear. They stay with the family, and you can still listen to them and read them, even though no new questions arrive. You can also get all the memories as audio and text files by asking us. If we ever remove memories, we always tell you in advance. More in the terms of service.
